So exactly 2 weeks ago today, I suffered one of the most devasting events that happen to a person of my generation. My lap top crashed. Hard. It wouldn't even come up in safe mode. When I told my favorite IT friend that, he said "oh that's not good".
So the dead lap top was replaced with much sadness as I lost my 16 GB of music in iTunes ( my iPod only had half of it on it, I mean, it's not really the season for Christmas music), a truck load of pictures, important documents and a family tree. I carefully shoved the dead laptop in my closet and hoped that someday, I might see that stuff again.
Fast forward to Tuesday night. So my friend comes over and asks to see the deceased. I pull it out of my closet and then he tries to get it to boot, but just like me, there was no booting to be had. Then he did all kinds of weird stuff- anyone remember DOS?-and he got it to come up in safe mode. So there was some virus scanning, and eventually, I was able to see beloved files again. I still can't move them, but just knowing that they are there makes me feel better.
So while the repair it's self may not seem amazing, the context is kind of funny. It was beastly hot on tuesday, so when he got to my house after a sweet moped ride, said friend took a shower, so he's sitting there on my couch, in one of my over sized towels, restoring all that is precious to me. It's probably a slightly different than what my pictured when he suggested I take my computer to a professional.....
